Restorative Care Village
North Star Alliances worked with LA General Medical Center to help announce and build support around their new development project, the Restorative Care Village. The project has been widely and immediately supported by the community since its announcement.
Issue
In Summer 2019 North Star Alliances was approached by LA General Medical Center to help announce and build support around a new development project, the Restorative Care Village. The project was designed to act as a campus that provided access to a full continuum of clinical care and supportive services to some of LA General Medical Center’s most vulnerable patients, including patients experiencing homelessness, who are formerly incarcerated, and others. This approach to providing wrap-around care services in a safe, nurturing on-site environment was innovative, and was meant to serve as a model for other hospitals around the country to help their most vulnerable patients fully recover and re-integrate themselves into their surrounding communities.
Solution
In an effort to raise awareness and garner support for the project, NSA provided LA General Medical Center with high-level strategic counsel, advising the leadership on specific community stakeholders that should be engaged as the project planning process was underway. Further, NSA worked with project partner Mercury Public Affairs to manage and execute a large-scale community event announcing the project and emphasizing the important role the Restorative Care Village will play in the region. The event took place at the medical center, and numerous LA General Medical Center and community stakeholders spoke at the event, including LA General Medical Center CEO Jorge Orozco, LA General Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Brad Spellberg, LA General Medical Center Executive Director of the Violence Intervention Program Astrid Heger, and LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis. Further, the event turned out many elected officials, community stakeholders, and influencers in LA County.
Results
As a result of NSA’s work, the Restorative Care Village project was widely and immediately supported by the community. After the project’s successful announcement, its development process moved quickly, beginning construction in 2020.
